Until I didn’t.
When I started college, I stopped reading for pleasure. I was reading so much for my classes, that I looked for other ways to relax. After college, I transitioned right into teaching and working on my master’s degree. Again I focused on reading for my profession. Then came babies and at first I was…
Just.
So.
Tired.
But I was also missing something in my life. I loved being a stay at home mom. That decision is one I will never regret, but I also found that time of my life to be lonely. I was looking for an escape from reality, from the endless laundry, and diapers, and tantrums (though, sometimes those tantrums were mine!)
And I was gone. I fell right back into the pattern I had been in middle school and high school. I escaped into the pages of the book and the world that author created for me. Once I reconnected with my passion for reading, the desire to write again came back with a vengeance. So I credit getting lost in books to bringing me back to writing, too.
One common thread in any book I get lost in is a fantastic book boyfriend. Sometimes they are sweet, sometimes they are damaged, and sometimes they are just plain dirty...but if they are written well, I can’t put their story down. Here is a list of the top 10 books or series I’ve gotten lost in.
Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer
Oh, Edward. I was captivated by the love and strength Edward possessed. I never thought I’d crush on a vampire until I met Edward Cullen.
Fallen Too Far (Rosemary Beach Series) by Abbi Glines
Rush Finlay ruined me for other book boyfriends for a long, long time. I adored his rough demeanor, and yet when he fell for sweet Blaire, he fell so hard and fast that it melted me. Rush is just too much fun to read about.
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
I get lost in all of Colleen Hoover’s books, but Hopeless was my first and I was blown away. Dean Holder was tortured and conflicted and devoted. Hopeless was a gut wrenching read that I loved every minute of.
Wait for Me by J. Lynn
This book truly hooked me on the New Adult genre. Cam is one of the most amazing male characters I have ever read and I adored the way he cherished and protected Avery. Cam is the definition of swoon-worthy.
Making Faces by Amy Harmon
This was my first read from Amy and it was one where I ended the book clutching my kindle to my chest. Amy is a beautiful writer and the story line of Bailey, Fern, and Ambrose was chock full of love and loss. Making Faces is a book I will never forget reading.
Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan
I can’t even put into words how moved I was while reading this book. Archer Hale is one of my all-time favorite characters and if you want a story about the power of love…this is the one.
With Me In Seattle Series by Kristen Proby
I can’t pick my favorite book in this series! I got lost in each one, though. The Montgomery brothers (and the other men in the clan) are hot, hot, and hotter. The women are hysterical and Kristen can always make me laugh out loud with their orgasm banter.
Beautiful Bastard Series by Christina Lauren
Again, I can’t pick my favorite in this series. I love Bennett, Max and Will equally! This is another super-sexy and laugh out loud series that I can always lose myself in.
Bared To You (Crossfire Series) by Sylvia Day
Gideon Cross just about did me in with his damaged, dominant, adoring ways. I truly enjoyed watching him fall so deeply in love with Ava.
Thoughtless Trilogy by SC Stephens
My favorite books in this series were Effortless and Reckless. I found myself getting ridiculously mad at Kiera in book one, as I fell head over heels in love with Kellan. In books two and three I forgave her, and Kellan cemented himself in my heart as one of my favorite book characters. He’s the perfect combination of broken, devoted, sexy, and sensitive. All in all, I couldn’t put this series down.
